Oxfordshire is the most rural county in the South East, with more than half the population living in towns or villages of less than 10,000 people – yet the local workforce is amongst the most highly qualified in the country, and the county has consistently high levels of employment. With high-tech businesses, international publishing, car manufacturing and motor sports amongst the region’s key industries, there’s a healthy demand for new homes in Oxfordshire.

The market town of Banbury and its surrounding area are particularly popular amongst house buyers because of the town’s excellent shops, restaurants and facilities, and its proximity to cities such as London (64 miles), Birmingham (38 miles), Coventry (27 Miles) and Oxford (21 miles).

The Pinson Close development from Avoncroft Homes offers a selection of high-quality, three-bedroom homes in a village setting, just two miles north of Banbury. Priced from £205,000 to £229,500, the homes have been built according to a carefully thought-out layout using a mixture of house elevations and styles, incorporating a variety of local materials, ensuring the homes fit in well with the surrounding area.

The village of Little Bourton is nestled in pretty countryside and has its own pub, play area and village hall, with all the amenities of Banbury just down the road. For commuters, junction 11 of the M40 is close by, and Banbury rail station provides main line trains to London Marylebone (a journey time of just 1 hour 10 minutes) and Birmingham (just 40 minutes away). A show home is open to prospective buyers at Pinson Close every weekend from 10am until 3pm on Saturdays, and from 11am until 3pm on Sundays.

For buyers keen to live in Banbury itself, Taylor Wimpey has a small development called The Cross coming soon, consisting of just eleven new two-, three-, and five-bedroom homes. The prices have yet to be released, but with a town centre location the development is likely to prove popular.

About half an hour’s drive south of Banbury in the market town of Bicester, Bovis Homes’ new Kingsmere development offers a choice of family homes priced from £269,995 to £499,995, with schemes to help first-time buyers. The ‘Perfect 10′ mortgage allows buyers to borrow up to 90% of the value of their new home at a competitive two-year fixed rate, for example – while with the ‘Jumpstart’ shared equity scheme, buyers pay as little as 85% of the purchase price upfront, but enjoy 100% ownership, and the company loans the remaining 15% balance with no interest for five years.

About half an hour’s drive north-east of Banbury, over the border in Northamptonshire, the market town of Daventry also offers excellent transport links, with the M1 motorway nearby. Heron’s View from Persimmon Homes is one of the latest new developments to become available in the town, offering a choice of three-, four- and five-bedroom homes.

The current ‘House of the Week’ is a four-bedroom mid-terrace called ‘The Acacia’, priced at £169,958 under the Persimmon Homes 85%/15% Shared Equity Scheme (the full asking price is £199,950). With no interest charged for five years, the scheme allows you to simply repay the remaining 15% of the property’s market value when you sell or within ten years, whichever is sooner – but you enjoy 100% ownership from the outset.
