You Don’t Have To Remortgage Just To Expand, Using The Finance To Redecorate Can Add Property Value

If you’re looking to sell in the near future, you may need to consider redecorating your home to make it more interesting to potential buyers. The only problem is that it’s not always easy or feasible to finance projects such as home improvements.

But have you considered the option of remortgaging your home and borrowing additional funds against the property? This is a great way to release the equity and use it to invest in your home, make it more attractive to prospective buyers and make it more enjoyable for you in the meantime. It could also increase the value of the property for when you do sell.

So where do you start? Well, one of the easiest and quickest projects would be to repaint the walls in all of the rooms. This can really lighten the place up and make it more aesthetically pleasing. It is important, however, to ensure that you use high quality products and perhaps consider getting a professional in to do the work.

If you decide to do the painting yourself, first make sure that you strip all of the old wallpaper off the walls and sand them down so that the surface is flat and even. You then need to line the walls with new paper and you can then add two to three coats of paint in your chosen colour – but make it’s a colour that the majority of people will like to make it more saleable.

Another quick and easy project is carpets. It doesn’t have to be expensive as you can shop online to find low cost carpets and shop around for a cheap fitter. You may even decide that you want to replace carpets and put down laminate flooring instead which is very popular in modern times.

You can also easily freshen up the doors in your house with a new lick of paint, and the same goes for skirting boards and any other wooden structures such as banisters. If they’re not painted, you could simply rub them down and stain them with specialist wood stain to make them look tidier.

Instead of forking out hundreds or even thousands on new furniture, why not just tart up your existing stuff? Paint the kitchen table, throw a cover on your settee and add new soft furnishing to make it look smart. This will help buyers to see how it could look if they lived in it.

If you’re looking to sell, little things such as vases with flowers in them, or table decorations in the dining room can really add that extra something when someone is looking to buy your home. Remember, they will be walking around imaging themselves living in the property so these things can help.

Most importantly, don’t neglect the exterior of your home. The front of the house, driveway, front garden and garage are the first things that a prospective buyer will see when they approach so the decisions start here for them. Any wooden doors or window frames should be painted, you could repaint the garage door, and a few flowers in the garden wouldn’t go a miss.

Whichever projects you need to do to make your home look neat and saleable, getting a remortgage can help to fund them so that you can make the most profit possible from your beloved home.
